Insights from the CEO

Recently, we made our platform even easier to use and much easier to access.
A recent research from Newzoo, “How consumers engage with video games today, Newzoo’s Global Gamer Study 2023” shows how much video games are now part of the collective culture.
79% of the total online population are “game enthusiasts”, that is “consumers who engage with gaming through playing, viewing, owning, and/or social behavior”. Meaning, a game enthusiast not only plays video games but watches other people playing, watches video gaming channels or esports broadcasters, and makes visits to online gaming communities, discusses video games with family and friends, listens to gaming podcasts, and may even attend large in-person gaming conventions.
82% of Millennials, 90% of Gen-Z, and 94% of Gen-Alpha are game enthusiasts, while only 64% of Gen-Xers are. For the newer generations, it’s a form of being with others and oneself, while for Gen-Xers it's a form of entertainment.
Like books or movies, video games have also become part of our global culture. We should begin considering them as tools that go beyond entertainment; they enable people to learn, train, or teach, exactly like books and movies, but with unique additional advantages.
First, video games span across cultures. You don’t need to speak a specific language to be able to play most video games. They unify people that would not have any other means to feel part of the same tribe. Video games unite people across geographies, age, gender, and disabilities. Everybody knows how to play. It’s encoded in our DNA.
Second, when we play we forget who we are and our daily problems. We lower our defensive barriers and allow ourselves for few hours to quickly learn the most disparate things, like flying an F16 or driving a car.
Of course, video games alone are not enough. The keyword here is “transfer”. Video games are not a substitute for real life. They’re not enough to learn how to fly a real F16 or a real car but they make it much easier to transfer the experience accrued into a real life situation.
Transfer is such an important aspect of what Wisepath does that we are dedicating a significant amount of attention and effort to building a network of exceptional coaches: a group of experts and professionals who understand the importance of soft skills and are trained to facilitate people in the process of transferring what they learn in the digital world into the physical one.
Video games are here to stay. The digital world is part of our culture just as much as the real one. The key is to take advantage of both, not to choose one over the other.
